HIGH QUALITY STEEL High carbon tool steel is used to produce blades that hold their razor-sharp edge, cut after cut. Spherical annealing is used to increase elasticity. The restructured steel keeps a keen edge, yet offers flexibility where it is needed. Hard chrome plating and chemical nickel finishes are provided to increase the hardness, provide rust and sap resistance, and increase durability. HARDENING Commonly, steel is hardened by heating it and cooling it in water or oil. This uneven process (outside cooler than the inside) can lead to flaws and brittleness in the steel. The ARS Marquench hardening system subjects the material and its outside to the same hardening transformation and cooling temperatures throughout. This forms an extremely durable steel that is then tempered at a specific temperature for an exact time to achieve the hardness suitable for ARS quality blades.
